A Common Word: Apostasy
The pseudo-"christian" left is at it again. The Left never ceases to find new ways to give aid and comfort to our enemies.
Now, they've fallen for the classic tactic advancing the cause of Islamic "submission" -- the extended offer of conversion to the "people of the book", usually as a means of justification for all out "holy war (jihad)", and to cut our heads off if we refuse.
Recently, 138 Muslim "scholars", (note: powerless intellectuals, not leaders) issued "A Common Word Between Us and You", an open letter to Christians seeking "peace". A slew of liberal theologians, clerics and activists representing the liberal "christian" academic community responded with a letter of their own.
Putting aside the groveling apologies for everything from the Crusades to the war on terror, with no reciprocal apology for the Islamic subversion of entire empires from the Syriac to the Byzantine and Spain, nor for assaults in France and Vienna and New York and Washington DC...no reference as to whether Muslims have been good neighbors to ANYBODY EVER... NO... aside from all of THAT, these so-called "christians" had the GALL to pursue the call to "peace" and "neighborliness" on the common ground of sharing a common God. Neighborliness is a good thing, if Muslims are capable of it. But it should NEVER be sought at the utterly unforgivable cost of undermining Christian TRUTH.
The "christian response" started with this: "In the name of the Infinitely Good God whom we should love with all our Being...." and later addressed God as the "All Merciful One". Umm, hello? Isn't that what the Muslims call Allah? Why didn't they address God by His name, unless they DON'T KNOW if His name is Allah or Jesus?! Memo to the apostate and the generally thickheaded --- a name identifies the difference between people as well as God! (Or should we call YOU Adolph Hitler and expect you to agree?)
In Phillippians 2:9-11 we read, "Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
No, these "good neighbors'" failure to identity God personally by name in the face of Muslims is tantamount to effectively renouncing the unique Person of Christ, who ALONE IS God Incarnate. That's apostasy, folks.
But I can't say I'm surprised at some of the signatories to the Christian Response: I've blogged about some of the same people before -- the usual suspects known as "Red Letter Christian" wolves in sheep's clothing:
- Bill Hybels, Sr Pastor, Willow Creek Community Church, South Barrington, IL
- Brian D. McLaren, Author, Speaker, Activist
- Rev. Dr. Robert Schuller, Founder, Crystal Cathedral and Hour of Power
- Jim Wallis, President, Sojourners
- Rick Warren, Founder,Sr Pastor, Saddleback Church, "The Purpose Driven Life"
- .....one that surprised me... Timothy George, Dean, Beeson Divinity School, Samford University
That is why I utterly reject their claims to be Christians. I disavow all fellowship with any Christian who claims to believe that Allah and Jesus are the same God. That is blasphemy on top of treason.
